After a meeting with BiH, Croatian and Republika Srpska Ministers of Energy in Brod, Scepanovic said that readings from measuring stations in Slavonski Brod, Croatia, are being monitored daily, and that concentrations of harmful substances in four years have not been even close to those which, according to the World Health Organisation, may cause negative effects on human health.
He added that the Brod Oil Refinery is expending maximum efforts to reduce harmful emissions and is not focusing on allowed emissions but on their full elimination.
According to Scepanovic, the record pollution recorded in the Refinery was far below concentrations which jeopardise human health and on that occasion operations of the Refinery were halted for four days.
Regarding a possible expansion of the Optima Group into petrochemistry, Scepanovic said that if this happens, it will be fully in keeping with ecological standards.
He explained that 95% of the Brod crude oil is Russian and contains 1.2% to 1.5% sulphur, and that such oil is mostly used in the region.
