Radmanovic: Nikolic’s visit very important for Srpska and BiH

Radmanovic said that the good neighbourly relations between Serbia
and all other countries in the Balkans demonstrate how people in these
parts can live, and it is Nikolic who is contributing to this.

“This is another in a series of major reasons why I am satisfied
with the Serbian President’s presence in Trebinje,” Radmanovic said
after a meeting with Nikolic at the Herzegovina Museum.

During the meeting, Radmanovic says, they resumed talks on issues
important for the two countries, for developing special parallel ties
between Serbia and Srpska and for overall peaceful politics in the
Balkans.

Nikolic said that everything positive that is happening in Serbia must “draw Srpska into a completely better life.”

“Serbia is on the right path, but I would not feel good if Serbia on
that path forgot Republika Srpska and its people, the Serbs in other
states, the whole Balkans, of which it is a pillar, and if it thought
only about itself,” Nikolic said.

Nikolic said that today he committed to doing what is written in the
Serbian Constitution – to care for the Serbs outside Serbia.

“I think that in a year's time I will be able to stand in front of
these people and submit a report on what I have done,” Nikolic said and
added that he is honoured to be in Trebinje today.

Asked about his message to Croatia prior to its joining the EU,
Nikolic said that Serbia is gladdened by the success of every one of its
neighbours, and that it has never prevented anyone from living a better
life.

“I wish the Croatian people might live a much better life,” Nikolic
said and stressed that Serbia was not an obstacle to meeting some
agreements with Croatia.

He expressed the hope that with its fitting into European rules,
Croatia will demonstrate that it is thinking differently about its
neighbours.

“I know that Croatia, in some wider context, cannot stand without
Serbia. We will have to do a lot of things to again connect our
economies and get joint projects and companies which will access foreign
markets,” Nikolic said.

Nikolic hopes that the EU will not leave Serbia two steps behind
Croatia as that would not be good, and added that Serbia wants to be a
pillar of peace and stability in the Balkans.

Asked if Serbia will get a date on June 28 (for commencement of
accession negotiations with the EU), Nikolic said “of course it will.”

Nikolic was today declared an Honorary Citizen of Trebinje at a solemn session of the Trebinje Municipal Assembly.
