“I have been invited for years to attend this traditional event,
and in most cases I accepted the invitations, so this year I will again
go to Washington in the first week of February. This is always an
opportunity not only to attend this international event, but to have a
number of bilateral meetings. At the moment, we are scheduling meetings
concerning the Congress or Senate, State Department, National Security
Council,” Radojicic told SRNA.
He says that the few days spent in Washington are usually filled up
not only with the prayer meeting and the events surrounding it, but also
with a number of bi-lateral meetings with American and other officials.
This year’s 61st annual Prayer Breakfast, which the US Congress
organises at the beginning of February, will be attended by over 3,000
guests from at least 130 countries.
The Prayer Breakfast has been organised since 1953 in February, and
the speakers include the American President and another guest whose name
is a surprise.
In addition to the Prayer Breakfast at the Hilton Hotel, this annual
event comprises a number of meetings of foreign officials with
Congressmen, thematic meetings and seminars.
The tradition started during the term of President Dwight
Eisenhower, who gathered a group of Congressmen at a meeting with an aim
of helping them overcome divisions in American society.
Later, invitations to attend the Prayer Breakfast were sent to
foreign delegations. Some 3,000 guests usually attend the event at the
Hilton Hotel in Washington.
