At a reception in Sarajevo organised for American officials
who today took part in a Balkan Conference of USAID Mission Directors, she said
that the participants of the conference had an opportunity to review the issues
shared by all the missions.
“We expressed the hope during the conference that we will
have an opportunity to implement more regional programmes pertaining to the
rule of law, energy and also economic programmes. In any case, bilateral
programmes of SE European countries and the US Government will continue,”
Alexander said.
When it comes to BiH, she said that an agreement on direct
financing between the USAID and BiH institutions was signed today, which
enables direct assistance to the BiH Security Ministry towards combating
trafficking in human beings.
“This projects demonstrates the partnership relations built
by the USAID and BiH institutions,” she added.
The director of the USAID Mission to BiH, David Bart, said that
projects that will come next year to a large degree will exceed this year’s
engagement of this Agency in BiH.
This evening’s reception was organised on the occasion of a
regional conference in Sarajevo which was attended by directors of USAID
Missions to Serbia, Albania, Macedonia and self-proclaimed Kossovo.
During a two-day visit to BiH, high-ranking US Government
officials met with local partners in the implementation of projects and
representatives of civil society.
Representatives of the BiH authorities, international
organisations in BiH, the business community and local NGOs, as well as
implementers of US Government projects in BiH, were also invited to the
reception.
Thus far, the US Government has provided, primarily by way
of USAID, almost $ 1.6 billion in assistance to the economic, democratic and
social progress of BiH.
