Mitrovic said that the decision of the
ICTY Trial Chamber that Oric does not have to testify at the request of
Karadzic’s defence is confirmation that the Hague Tribunal is an anti-Serbian court.
“Naser Oric is the crown witness to
the events in Srebrenica of 1992-1995. Karadzic’s defence is absolutely in the
right to ask for his testimony,” Mitrovic said.
He said that he does not remember that
the ICTY ever rejected any witness who testified against Serbs, but noted that
in several cases, General Ratko Mladic, Karadzic and Vojislav Seselj were
prevented from bringing witnesses who might have testified to the truth, which
might have helped their defence.
The ICTY Trial Chamber yesterday rejected
the request of former Republika Srpska President Radovan Karadzic for the court
to subpoena Naser Oric and Ranko Mijic to appear as defence witnesses in his
trial.
In the case of Oric, one-time
commander of the 28th Division of the BiH Army in Srebrenica, the Trial Chamber
concluded that the accused failed to expend “every reasonable effort” to secure
his voluntary cooperation!
Karadzic asked that Oric appear as his
defence witness so that he might prove that the Muslim leadership in the Summer
of 1995 “sacrificed Srebrenica and its population as part of a wider strategy
so that they might get the part of Sarajevo they wanted in final resolution of
the war.”
