Dercun: The stay of Albanian soldiers in KIM would jeopardise the security of Serbs

BELGRADE - The president of the Serbian Parliament’s Kossovo Committee, Milovan Drecun, told SRNA that the conclusion of a military agreement between Kossovo and Albania represents an unnecessary and extremely provocative and irresponsible move by Pristina and Tirana.

Drecun said that the agreement is unacceptable for Serbia from the point of view of regional stability, and points out Tirana’s constant – sometimes greater, sometimes lesser – pretensions to a greater Albania.

“There is no reason for the Albanian Army to stay in the territory of the Republic of Serbia – Kossovo – in any form, regardless of the fact that Albania recognised the unilaterally proclaimed independence (of Kossovo),” Drecun said.

According to him, an intent to organise certain joint military activities, probably exercises, is obvious, as are preparations for members of the so-called Kossovo security forces to take part in NATO missions, together with the Albanian Army.

“Serbia cannot look upon this behaviour with favour, but must sharply oppose it, as this agreement represents an act of destabilisation of the situation in Kossovo and can encourage Albanian extremists and members of paramilitary units, not only in Kossovo and Metohija, but in the region as well,” Drecun said.

Drecun said that there is no doubt that the stay of Albanian soldiers in Serbian territory, in Kossovo and Metohija, would additionally jeopardise the security of the Serbian people.

An agreement on military cooperation between Kossovo and Albania, and on the stay of members of the one armed forces in the territory of another country, was signed by the Minister of Kossovo Security Forces, Agim Cheku, and Albanian Defence Minister Arben Imami on Monday in Prizren.

The agreement stipulates a procedure for the entry and exit, temporary stay and status of members of the Albanian Army and members of the so-called Kossovo Security Forces in the territory of the other signatory.

The First Serbian Deputy Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vucic, yesterday said that the military agreement between Kossovo and Albania is a very serious problem and that Serbia must talk about this with the EU and other partners in the world in order to protect its citizens.
